If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably swallowed a fruit seed or two and fretted about it.

Yet, in the end, everything was alright.

So I was wondering what fruit seeds you could consume.

It is generally safe to consume a few fruit seeds each day from popular fruits such as apples and oranges.

Much more than that, though, and you risk being poisoned. Cherries and ackee, for example, contain very poisonous seeds.

Yet, most seeds have a bitter and disagreeable flavor that deters people from eating them.

Some fruits, such as passion fruit, include seeds that may enhance the taste. Nonetheless, it is advisable to avoid consuming fruit seeds in general.

Sunflower seeds, for example, are similar in size and form to fruit seeds but fall into a separate group.

And are more like to nuts.

What Fruit Seeds Should You Not Eat?

Since certain fruit seeds are very hazardous, I thought I’d provide a list of the seeds you should avoid.

The following fruit seeds should not be consumed:

  • Ackee
  • Cherries
  • Apricots
  • Plums
  • Peaches

Many obscure fruits have toxic seeds, and the small berries of some common vegetables, such as asparagus, are also toxic.

The symptoms are similar to those of food poisoning, and include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and a headache.

Some seeds are also very poisonous and may be lethal if swallowed in large quantities.

The seed of the pip fruit is very hard and almost difficult to split apart with your teeth. Yet it is possible.

I recall using my teeth to crack open a nectarine pip.

On the interior lies a flat thin seed with a highly bitter flavor that is very tough to eat.

Several little berries, such as Deadly NightShade and Daphne, are toxic if eaten.

They are not often served, although they resemble other fruits such as cherries or cherry tomatoes in appearance.

How Many Seeds Should I Eat a Day?

It is safe to consume a few fruit seeds, plus there are other seeds you may consume, such as pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

So, how many seeds should you consume every day?

As a general rule, you should avoid eating fruit seeds. Other seeds, such as sunflower and pumpkin seeds, may be consumed in moderation.

There is no suggested quantity, however for most individuals, less than 200g (7 oz) per day is sufficient.

Much more than that, and you’ll become tired of eating them since they make up such a huge portion of your diet.

Assume you put some sunflower seeds on top of a dish of fruit salad for breakfast.

Let’s assume you put sesame seeds in a dish for supper. Then sprinkle some pumpkin seeds on top of a salad or some bread. It is about (1.6 oz) 50g of seeds.

The recommended daily fiber intake is roughly 30g. Hence, based on some basic math, you’d need to consume around 300g of nuts.

Alternatively, taking 100g as an average fruit size, 10 to 15 pieces of fruit.

Seeds are high in protein

It is healthy to eat a variety of meals, but while attempting to gain muscle or maintain your existing muscle mass, you must occasionally go out of your way to consume adequate protein.

Protein drinks and meat are two options for getting adequate protein.

Yet, foods such as sunflower seeds and almonds are abundant in protein.

Vegetarians and those who don’t consume meat or fish may obtain a lot of protein from foods like tofu.

Yet, I believe that since these meals are heavily processed and cooked, the nutritional content is lower than foods like nuts and seeds.

Which may be consumed uncooked. Cooked and processed fruits and vegetables have less nutrients than consuming them fresh, according to scientific evidence.

When consumed raw, some nuts, such as cashews, contain toxins.

As a result, they are steamed or roasted. Some nuts, such as peanuts, are safe to consume uncooked.
